What I did…
I wanted to design a poster that focuses on suicide prevention, because six months ago my brother took his own life. I wanted to emphasize that normal people can save lives and become superheroes by asking someone if they’re thinking about suicide. The website bethe1to.com has more information about what people can do to help someone who is thinking of taking their life. I wanted to use a color scheme that incorporates comic book and superhero colors. Online I found a comic book graphic that used a color scheme I liked. I used the color picker to use those colors throughout my design. I picked a bright blue that I used to color in the boy’s shirt and I used the same color to emphasis the hashtag #BeThe1To. The repetition in the colors ties the overall design together. I used two different fonts from the same font family: Komika Slim for the speech bubble and website info, and Komika Hand Bold for the main message. The question is centered so it’s balanced in the speech bubble. From there the eye travels down to the right aligned message. I centered the website under the message to give information about where to go. The main message, hashtag, and website are all located near each other to indicate they go together. I used Komika Slim for the speech bubble and website, and for the main message.
