What I did… I created a font style that would work nicely on a Christmas piece, such as a greeting card. I wanted to mimic a gold, shimmery style that could be found on a Christmas ornament. To do so, I added grain from the filter gallery to a gold-colored layer. I then added a filter that crystallized the grain. I repeated this with several layers to make a gold, glittery look. For the image I wanted to create something that is “merry and bright.” I used an image that focuses on a Christmas ornament, but still has other elements visible, such as the tree and bokeh in the background. The glitter and gold from the image repeats the glitter and gold elements in the font style. To increase the contrast of the text on the image, I added a dark green, transparent background. The image and text are divided asymmetrically to draw attention to the elements and not the boxes that contain them. Photoshop tools used: layers, filters, styles, blending modes, and shape tool.
